Holiday Gift for my Friends and Family
I heard a commercial on the radio this morning talking about a holiday sale.  It is only September people!!!  However, this got me thinking about what I want to get for my gardening friends this year.  Maybe this year I can beat the last minute shoppers and have all my Christmas gifts ready by Halloween!  Yea right… For me, the best gifts are the ones I make myself because I feel I put a little bit of myself into them (and because these days I have to watch every penny I spend).  My grandmother gave me a quilt many years ago and every time I see that quilt, I think of how special my grandmother was.  Now that I am a grandmother, I want to give more than mere gifts to my grandchildren; I want to give them memories.

Sometimes it is hard for me to think up unique gift ideas that are easy enough to make.  There are a few resources where I have found excellent ideas:

This craft book has 100’s of great craft ideas that are easy to make and good enough to sell.  A great idea I have found is to make a gift from this book and combine it with some of my homemade jelly, Later on when people see that gift I made; they will remember the jelly I made as well.
Here is a thought - Making Christmas gifts with the grandchildren for them to give to their parents.  A good book for that is this one.  You can get the grandchildren on a Saturday afternoon, bake some cookies and help them create gifts for their parents.  This is special time with them that they will always remember – and so will you.

After our loved ones have left us, all we have is our memories.  I intend to create as many good ones that I can for my family to share.

"I love my family and friends - and I love gardening.  When I was a little girl, we had to plant a bean in a cup of dirt in grade school.  We were told to water it and give it plenty of sunshine.  After a few days, a sprout started to poke through the dirt.  I remember how excited I was to see it - and to see it grow in the days following.  I think back on that and smile at the innocent little girl's first experience with the miracle of a growing seed." - Grandma Cindy
